Going, Going, Don!

Going, Going, Don!

In a very sad development for British motorsport the company that was trying to bring F1 to Don (-ington Park) has called in the administrators.

Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd. had hoped to fulfil its 17-year contract to host the British Grand Prix but failed to secure the financial backing required to satisfy Bernie Ecclestone that all was well.

Administrator Nigel Price said “This need not be the end of Formula One racing at Donington. It still remains a fantastic location….we are certainly hopeful that a 2011 Grand Prix could take place at the site. We are looking for a purchaser for the business and the potential opportunity to bring Formula One to this part of the East Midlands by funding the work that needs to be carried out to the circuit.

I’m sure that many observers will join me in nodding sagely and confidently predicting that F1 will not return to Donington Park for a very long time. Of course, that’s not to say that the British GP will return to Silverstone – or that the British GP will return at all.

For now we wish the very best to all the staff and employees of DVL Ltd. and we cross our fingers that Donington will be rebuilt.
