Button Signs for McLaren

In a final exposition of F1’s worst kept secret since… well, the last one, McLaren are letting it be known that they’ll be holding a press conference later this afternoon. They won’t be drawn on the subject other than to say that they’ll be announcing their 2010 driver line-up… and that Jenson Button will be there.

You don’t need to be a CFD scientist to work out the connection – Jenson Button has signed for McLaren in a move that means McLaren will field the last two World Champions in next year’s campaign.

It’s a move to a great car but it’s hard to see that Jenson will easily rise to #1 status – he’s going to a team that Hamilton has worked hard to make his own. It seems extremely likely that Hamilton and Button will have a good shot at the ‘10 championship, just remember that experience dictates that championship winners don’t traditionally split points with their team-mates. Both drivers know that and the team knows that.

I doubt that the rumours surrounding Hamilton’s starlet-style fallouts with McLaren’s mechanics and crew actually have any truth in them, but maybe Button’s only hope for 2010 is if there IS some truth behind the tabloid rants…
